Here are inspirational thoughts to help you successfully deal with the Criticizers in your life. You know who I mean – those people who always have something negative or critical to say. Those people or person who like damper your good mood or make you feel self conscious or bad about something you’ve done.
Take heart. These people can only ruin your happiness or good mood if you give them the power to. Obviously, the best advice is to avoid these people altogether; but if you’re like me, it’s not always possible, because Criticizers often turn out to be people we love and/or care about. So what can you do? Here are several positive quotes to help:
Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain – and most fools do. ~ Dale Carnegie
Criticizing someone is very easy and takes very little effort. Just sling a negative comment and watch it hurt the other person. This is why it is important that you develop a thick skin. You’re not perfect and you will make mistakes. That’s the beauty of life – mistakes are how you do your best learning and growing. You’re nobody’s victim, however, so when those criticisms come flying, let them go in one ear and out the other.
Those who can – do. Those who can’t – criticize. ~ Unknown
Ever hear the saying, “Misery love company?” Some people criticize you, because they are actually jealous of your progress or success. It’s so easy to damper someone else’s good fortune. Therefore, if a Criticizer can pull you down to his/her unhappiness level, he/she will. This will make him/her feel better about his/herself, because if you are at the same place as him/her then he/she will not feel as bad about him/herself or circumstances.
To avoid criticism do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. ~ Elbert Hubbard
As long as you are trying to do something with your life, you will always have people who will criticize you. I’m of the opinion that it’s just par for the course. Take it in stride and keep going. Think about your favorite actor or sports person. If they crumbled under the criticism they received, they’d give up all the good things in their lives.
Remember that nobody will ever get ahead of you as long as he is kicking you in the seat of the pants. ~ Walter Winchell
Many times the person doing the criticizing isn’t doing much with his/her life. If they were, they wouldn’t have so much time on their hands to criticize you.
Sometimes They Truly Mean Well
Lastly, sometimes the Critic means well. It could be a parent, sibling, significant other, or close friend who sincerely believes they are saving you potential trouble or grief. If this is the case, you have two choices. You can follow my approach – listen, see if anything of value was said, and then chose your actions – always remembering that these people love you and want the best for you. Or, you can try talking to the criticizers – letting them know how you feel.
Anyway, take encouragement from these quotes. These inspirational thoughts let you know that criticism is not fatal. As always, you get to chose how you will react. Ask yourself if the criticism is worthwhile and beneficial for you. If it is use it. If it isn’t, forget it and move on. No sense letting it bring you down. It’s not worth it.
