Inspirational Thoughts: Falter or Thrive?

Motivation_DeterminationInspirational Thoughts: The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is what you make it.

Herein lies the problem for most people – they react instead of responding.

What’s the difference? A reaction is more of an instantaneous, knee jerk impulse. Reactions are closely tied to habits, because we’re so used to behaving and interacting in a certain way.

Think about the last thing that really pissed you off. If you’re anything like me, you probably reacted – letting your irritation get the better of you. Whereas a response isn’t reactive. It may require a little thought. It’s a constructive approach that usually offers a better outcome than a reaction.

What Does These Inspirational Thoughts Have to Do With You?

These thoughts have everything to do with you. You see, it’s not what happens when you face an obstacle, it’s how you respond or react to it. It may seem hard to believe, but this is totally within your control.

Are You a Reactor?

If you are one of those people who always get caught up in the moment of what’s happening then your probably a reactor. You may feel down and wonder why things always have to happen to you. You may mope, and cry, and get so caught up in what is going in your life that you stagnant – stay stuck in your current situation. The negative feelings keep building until you feel weighed down.

Or, Are You a Responder?

On the other hand, you may be a responder. In your case, when that obstacle strikes, you may feel down and wonder why things always happen to you. However, you only dwell on it for a minute. You may vent, you may cry, or you may scream. Afterward, you’re focused on how to make things better.

See the difference? Now the question is – which are you? Be honest with yourself. If you’re a responder, congratulations. Personally, I rate myself a 75% responder (I’m still working on things that trigger the wrong reaction). Now, if you’re a reactor – you’ve taken the first step by admitting it to yourself. You next step is to start working to change this habit for the better. If you’re in between – well, there is room to improve.

The key here is taking the necessary steps to make things better for you. The more you can respond, the better your chances to overcome obstacles and grow into a better person.
