Today’s inspirational thoughts are inspired by our need for a little variety in life. Do you ever get tired of the same old things? I think many of us do. That’s why we often try to use the New Year to jump start positive life changes. We often run into a problem though. You already know what it is.
Inspirational thoughts: When we try to do something new, we don’t know what we’re doing. That’s the biggest challenge. ~ Jeffrey Kalmifkoff
Yep, it’s that dreaded comfort zone. Add to that, we place ourselves in uncomfortable territory. Whenever we take on anything unfamiliar we are not good at it. We subject ourselves to a learning curve; meaning it’s hard; meaning we heighten our chances of failure. Let’s face it, who wants to fail, right? Well, absorb these humorous, but wise words from the following inspirational thoughts:
Inspirational thoughts: Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic. ~ Dave Barry
Well, I’m sure you know what became of both the Ark and the Titanic? It just goes to show you – you don’t need to know what you are doing. You simply need to start. Nobody says you can’t change or make adjustments as you go along. It is expected and a part of the journey.
A New Year; Those Darn Resolutions Are Coming…..Again!
With the New Year fast approaching, I figured it is a good time to focus on inspirational thoughts geared towards a successful new year. Why? Because, a new year means making New Year resolutions for many.
Often times, they make monster vows – I’m going to be financially free! I’m going to be debt free! I’m going to be rich! When all is said and done, 95% of those who make New Year resolutions never achieve them, let alone start them.
Do you want to know why? Well, there are the things I already mentioned in this post; however, there is also the fact that they make their goals too big; too daunting. This is where that new and fresh I mention in the title comes in.
Want in on a Little Secret?
You have a better chance of experiencing those positive changes you want in life if you simply start small. You can either start by eliminating something that is non-productive in your life a little at a time, or you can take on a small task each day that can help you achieve your longer-term goals. I’m going to use an analogy and then provide a simple example.
The Analogy:
I’d like you to think of a simple baked chicken dish with salt as the only seasoning. Let’s pretend this is your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After a while, eating becomes boring – you get to experience the same taste day in and day out. It’s allows you to function, so you stick with it – afraid if you try something new, it could taste worse.
Now, let’s pretend you decide to try something new and fresh. You could move from chicken to fish, knowing you do not have clue how to prepare a fish recipe, or you could simply make small but powerful additions to your chicken dish. For instance, one day you decide to sprinkle a little bit of a new seasoning on your baked chicken. The delightful favor explodes in your mouth and you get excited, because the new aromas and favor add interest and variety to your life.
See how one small thing can make a big difference?
Many people make the mistake of thinking that new and fresh means only big actions and big changes. This is not the only option you have. While smaller chances and actions may be more subtle or take a little longer, you are more likely to sustain them for lasting life changes that are new, fresh, and positive.
The Example:
I’ve always wanted a Blog, but I have limited technical skills and a huge learning curve. I was scared to get started; scared to share my thoughts, and scared to fail. I took the plunge anyway. Eventually, I found the fantastic Thesis theme which took away most of my technical worries and I simply started to write – one Blog post at a time. This is my 60th Blog post. I started in July 2009.
So, if anyone ever tells me that little actions mean nothing, I don’t believe it. As a matter of fact, I use this approach with all of my goals - adding one pinch of seasoning at a time. This way, I get to experience new and fresh at different intervals which is exciting and fun.
As always, I like to leave you with inspirational thoughts. These are kind of funny. However, they demonstrate my point as well.
Inspirational thoughts:I try something new every night. It’s an hour show; if it works I maybe try it a few more times and then move that off and try something new. It’s a great workshop for me. ~ Kate Clinton
Now it’s your turn. How are you going to add new and fresh to your life?
