“Bad things are always going to happen in life. People will hurt you. But you can’t use that as an excuse to fail or to hurt someone back. You’ll only hurt yourself.” ~ Unknown
I selected the above inspirational thoughts for a reason. At one time or another somebody will hurt you – whether intentionally or not. From your standpoint it will not make a difference – hurt is hurt. So how do you deal with it? I once read somewhere that hurting people hurt other people. Do you really care? Probably not. Should you care. Well that’s up to you.
My advice is simply this. You have a very important choice to make. That choice boils down to how you decide to react to it.
I’d be lying if I told you it’s easy to forgive and forget. However, think about forgiving and filing away the experience for history’s sake. Learn from it and then move on. Reference the experience in the future if necessary.
Just be careful not to become jaded. Never forget that life happens and the bad times allow you to appreciate the good times all the more.
Does this mean you become so careful that you quit living? Of course not. Some of life’s best experiences happen when you take a smart leap of faith. What do I mean by this? Well, you have an internal instinct, better known as you gut reaction to things. It’s that internal signal that subconsciously tells you when something feels right or wrong. Listen to it. Trust it.
Here’s something else. You may need to provide yourself with an emotional adjustment period. There’s not a darn thing wrong with this.
It nice you can read inspirational thoughts and motivation, but it’s stupid for anyone to think you can simply turn your feelings off and on. Your human for goodness sake. So go ahead… feel the anger, sadness, disappointment, unhappines, or pain. The key is not to let it take over and consume you.
Now here’s the most important point of all. Whoever hurt you - work on forgiveness. Believe me, you’re doing this for selfish reasons. You’re doing this for YOU. You want to be free of the pain so that you can to move on to bigger and better things. Do you know what else? I’m going on record and stating that it’s okay to be selfish at times. There…I said it and I mean it, too.
Nobody said you have to an be absolute perfect person who uses inspirational thoughts and sayings to lift your life to a higher level. That’s bull crap. Most people look for inspirational thoughts and encouragement to provide them with a lift so when that unthinkable thing or experience happens…they can deal with it better.
With that….live your life. Be forgiving for your sake and feel better for it.
