Inspirational Bible Verse: “The Holy Spirit bears us up in our weaknesses.” ~ Romans 8:26
Are you tired of playing games, wearing masks, and trying to be someone other than you are? It seems to be the story of our lives. We desire to be accepted; we want to be liked; and we long to belong. There’s not many people I know who want to be rejected, alone, or isolated.
So what do we do? We try to cover up our weaknesses – those things that we think will make us vulnerable; laughed at; rejected; or weak. Herein lies our problem. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has strengths and weaknesses. This combination, along with other things like our character, make up who we are. If we cutoff or cover them up, then we are not fully being ourselves. When we try to be other than ourselves, we are not as happy. We are fakes; we are frauds; we are living a lie.
Before I go further, there is a difference between self improvement and simply trying to be something we are not. Of course, there are appropriate times and circumstances for certain behaviors and actions. That is not what I am talking about. I’m talking about when we live day in and day out trying to be something other than we are. Check out these be yourself quotes for more encouragement and support.
“The greatest weakness of all is the great fear of appearing weak,” ~ Jacques Benigne Bossuel
Do you know why I don’t want you to spend so much time running away from your weakness? Because it takes away from concentration on your strengths. Instead of building up what you do well and being happier, you’re focused on negatives.
Never forget there is not a perfect person on the planet. As a matter of fact, many people try to divert their short-comings by focusing on someone else’s. In my book, this isn’t exactly a positive way to live your life.
You can count on the fact that God uses every inch of you for his overall good. As a matter of fact, I encourage you to read the following inspirational words about cracked pots. These pots represent the flaws and imperfections in each and every one of us.
Growth begins when we begin to accept our own weakness ~ Jean Vanier
Here’s the beauty of accepting who you are (warts and all). You’re more comfortable in your own skin. You will learn not to rely on other people’s opinion for your own happiness. You place control for your happiness in your own hands. Just remember and never forget – nobody is perfect….everyone makes mistakes. This is key.
Also, you may need to examine the types of people you associate with. If you can’t be yourself, then examine why. I’ve heard it said that there are two kinds of people in this world – those who add positively to it and those who tear down. Your problem may not be you. Remember what I said earlier – there are people who build themselves up by knocking others down.
On the other hand, you may need to find courage. The courage to admit, “Hey, I’m not perfect, but I have value.” ……..and you do. You have good things to contribute in your life. Find them, be yourself, and be happier. I’d like to end this post with another inspirational Bible Verse to drive the point home:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me… For when I am weak, then I am strong. – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
