Your Happiness Lies In Your Words. Here’s a Few Inspirational Thoughts.

by Kim on March 9, 2010

Today’s inspirational thoughts center around creating more happiness in your life.

So…… would you like  more happiness in life?  Then watch what you say!

“A careless word may kindle strife,
A cruel word may wreck a life,
A timely word may lessen stress,
A loving word may heal and bless.”

What you say is a reflection of what you think. Your words are a strong indication of where you are in your life right now and what direction your life is heading in the future. Use this knowledge to steer towards the happiness and contentment you seek. Start by doing a little self reflection. Why not review these inspirational thoughts about the power of appreciation? These can help shape your words.

Okay, here are some questions I have for you. What are you saying? What are you talking about? Are you words mostly positive or negative;depressing or uplifting?

Only you can answer these questions. However, I challenge you to be more conscious of what you say. As it stands, many people underestimate the power of their words. They solely focus on what they think.

Big mistake!

You happiness relies on a combination of thoughts, actions, experiences, and words that can make or break your life.

Don’t believe me? Think about hurtful words directed towards you. How about encouraging words that helped or inspired you? Yes….you get my meaning.

The beauty is what comes out of your mouth helps direct your life. Granted, there are insincere words that dip from some people’s mouth. Often, you can spot these fakes a mile away. More telling is if you’re a liar – whether you lie to yourself or others, you are only fooling yourself. You’re simply digging a nice pit of self deception that is waiting to come up and bite you.

What I’m talking about are the honest to goodness words that just seem to spring from your mouth without much thought. As emotional creatures of habit, this happens all of the time. Therefore, you have to use your words as a tool. You can use your words to train your thoughts or you can use your words to gauge your thoughts. Yes. You Can!!!! It takes a little conscious effort. Simply be alert and tune into what you are saying.

Make a game out of it if you have to, but pay attention. Do you know the Bible provides solid advice about what you speak. Here are some of my favorite Proverbs about words, and speaking:

  • “The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.” (Proverbs 10:8, ESV). This covers the person who runs at the mouth and makes a fools of him or herself.
  • “The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near.” (Proverbs 10:14, ESV). How many people say hurtful things or miss opportunities for saying the wrong things? Plenty!
  • “The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool. When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.” (Proverbs 10:18-21, ESV). Lying and slander has a way of catching up with folks. Don’t get caught up in gossip. It ain’t worth it.

Remember, your words matter. As simple as they may be, it’s true. “Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.” ~ Buddha
