Show me a worrying person and I will show you a person who does not know how to relax. ~ Albert E. Cliffe
When did life become one busy mass of stuff to do? It seems as if 24/7 we are riddled with activities and things to be done. Even worse, when we are not busy we are thinking of the things we still need to do. It’s one vicious cycle.
Is it any wonder stress and sleeping disorders are at an all-time high? There are more products than ever geared towards dealing with stress and helping people sleep better. All of this got me to thinking….what is the value of a little rest and relaxation?
I mean, God must have been onto something. He worked 6 days a week and rested on the 7th. I think he wanted to give us a blueprint on how to live our best lives.
Now, somewhere along the way, folks started thinking they could fill every free minute to get everything done. Personally, I’m not convinced it’s working. In fact, I think this approach is why so many people are stressing and unhappy.
It can get overwhelming at times – the amount of stuff we want to get done in a day. Well, I here to tell you…..those precious moments of downtime can make a huge difference. Take work for instance. The following relaxation quote sums it up:
No matter how much pressure you feel at work, if you could find ways to relax for at least five minutes every hour, you’d be more productive. ~ Dr. Joyce Brother
Take it from me. Finding five minutes to relax is huge. I find these precious minute each day on my job. That’s why, unlike some people, I’m not dealing with ulcers or anxiety. Try it.
Here’s a great relaxation quote that is chalk full of wisdom: For fast-acting relief try slowing down. ~ Lily Tomlin. Right on Lily! This is some of the best advice going.
Beware the barrenness of a busy life. ~ Socrates
Stephen King quotes, ” get busy living, or get busy dying.” However, some people take this to far. They fall into the trap of being busy doing the wrong things. This is another cause of stress and unhappiness. You have to look at how you are spending your time.
When reflecting about this, ask yourself – Do you feel you are making progress? Or, do you feel frustration and fatigue on top of everything else? See, when you’re super busy you can get caught up in whatever you’re doing without taking time to stop and think about whether your actions are adding value to your life. That’s why a few minutes downtime each day are needed. This way, you allow yourself a few precious minutes to re-energize.
Have you noticed the common theme here? Being busy and being busy doing the wrong things day in and day out, with no rest or relaxation is hazardous to your life.
