Self Esteem Building Quotes: “Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.” ~ St. Francis De Sales
You’ll be happiest in life when you learn to be true to yourself. What does this mean? It means accepting yourself for who you are.
If you want to live a fully enriched life, then everything depends on YOU. You are at the center of it all. How you feel about yourself will determine your level of success and happiness, because the truth of the matter is – you have to accept yourself as you serve as the springboard for everything else.
I learned this lesson the hard way. I wasted years not fully understanding this concept and it hurt everything and everyone important in my life. In the end, I worked hard learning to be “comfortable in my own skin.” It’s been tough and challenging, but well worth the effort.
Because of my experience, the self esteem building series is for you. To help you learn to fully accept yourself and build a great life in the process.
The self esteem building series will provide inspirational thoughts and insight as well as an exercise for you to put into action. These self esteem building exercises are solutions you can use right away to start down the road towards a more accepting you.
Let’s get started:
You really do matter. The wonderful truth is that God created you as a unique and special individual. This is why you are good at some things and not so good at others. Understand that God has a special purpose for your life. You just haven’t tuned into it yet.
Also know this – the problem is not entirely you. The problem is the world in which we live and how the culture tries to manipulate and shape us into being what we are not.
How so? Think about commercials and propaganda. It’s meant to sell you things or shape your thinking. As a woman, what comes most to mind is how beauty is portrayed in the United States. You have these skinny models in skimpy clothing being touted as the be-all in beauty.
Here’s the irony, what the advertisers fail to mention is that most photographs are airbrushed to cover the model’s flaws. Not to mention the fake hair, the war paint, and other enhancing techniques to make the model look his/her best.
See…that’s my point. Even advertisers recognize the importance of highlighting strengths while downplaying flaws. We, on the other hand, do the opposite. We focus on our weaknesses and try to fit into a mold of what others think we should be. Instead, what we really should do is focus on the best parts of ourselves.
This is not an easy thing to do. But you know what? You have a ton of clues from within. The hard part is paying attention to them.
Treasure Hunt For Your Lost Or Hidden Goodies:
Self esteem building starts with awareness. Your goal is to consciously find those things you love to do and do well. Unfortunately you might view your treasures as unimportant or insignificant. For instance, you may be a great listener or you may be very good at understanding people’s point of views.
You could be the person who finds fault in everything or the person who loves to lend a helping hand. The point is that every talent or skill has a profound purpose when used in the right situation/circumstances.
For example: the people good at understanding other people’s point of view could make great Negotiators. People who find the problem in everything would be great at quality control. Personally, I’d like someone like this in charge of quality for life saving equipment and procedures. See what I mean?
Self Esteem Building Exercise #1:
You are to carry a small note book or mobile devise with you at all times. Whenever you feel particularly good about a task, action, or thought - note it.
You’re fishing for passion and strengths. You’re searching for those activities you could do all day long and LOVE it. It will take a little effort on your part, but it’s not difficult. Therein lies the problem. You must pay attention and note the times your feel completely at ease. Note the times when the task seems effortless and enjoyable. You must note the times you feel really happy in an activity.
Hunt for these treasures for an entire week and NOTE THEM. That’s the key. Once you have a nice amount of data, we’ll cover the next step. Happy hunting and congratulations on taking the first step to better self esteem building.
You’re going to do great. Now here’s a self esteem quote for you:
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
