Inspirational Sports Quotes: The breakfast of champions is not cereal, it’s the opposition.  ~ Nick Seitz

You have inspiration all around you. One of the most prevalent sources is sports. The great thing is – you don’t have to be a sports fan to appreciate the many great quotes from athletes, coaches, and fans of the game. As sports do imitate many of the ups and downs of life, it would be crazy to ignore the valuable life lessons and inspirational words that can help you steer your thoughts and efforts to improve your own situation.

With that, I have carefully selected some of the best inspirational sports quotes for you. Really take in the meaning and be inspired.

Most games are lost, not won.  ~  Casey Stengel

I believe we sometimes view events and circumstances in life from the wrong perspective. We play it safe.  We don’t believe in ourselves, or we allow our difficult times and circumstances to knock us to our knees. If you pay close attention to this sports quote, you’ll note it references a game. Well, your life is like a game. You have to be actively engaged – taking action, giving effort, and always working to get better. When we do these things, most of the time we win. We win because we are prepared for the opportunities.

The bottom line is that the world keeps changing and advancing. If we don’t keep up, we fall behind. We set ourselves up to lose, because we don’t take full advantage of our talents and skills. We fall prey to the noise around us – the thoughts that say, “we can’t.” Well, I say we learn to believe, “we can.”

If you make every game a life-and-death thing, you’re going to have problems.  You’ll be dead a lot.  ~  Dean Smith

This inspirational sports quote reminds that while stuff does happen in life, you don’t have to take everything so seriously. If you have ever experienced the emotions of constant worry, constant pressure, or constant tension – it’s exhausting. Therefore, you have to learn to REALLY sort out the stuff that really requires your serious attention and the stuff that while it didn’t work out, it’s not the end of the world.

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I’ll win a pennant every year.  ~ Sparky Anderson

It’s funny how motivated people are or how much they can accomplish when they are truly motivated. Therefore, find your motivation and ride the heck out of it. When you feel your motivation running low – fuel back up and keep on going.

Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play. ~  Mike Singletary

You have something major to celebrate. It’s the game called your life. In it – you have tons of opportunity. However, you have to get in the game, try stuff out, and adjust when needed. You have to savor the victories and climb up from the throes of defeat. You have to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and continue to play.

The best part is that you have more opportunities each day you are alive. So take advantage of them. Take as many do-overs has you need. It’s okay. It’s to be expected.  It’s a part of the game.

Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do. ~  John Wooden

If you are familiar with any sport, you’ll notice that athletes focus on what they are good at. My favorite basketball player, Michael Jordon, was the greatest basketball player ever. However, he tried to play professional baseball and stunk at it. He learned his lesson. He returned to basketball.

There are so many celebrated athletes who are outstanding at their chosen sport and skill. They focus on what they are good at. You have to learn to do the same thing in your life. Don’t get caught up with what you can’t do well. It’s a sign telling you to focus on something else. It’s that’s simple. You’ll be so much happier if you build up your strengths. Give it a try. I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. ~ Lance Armstrong

Out of all of the inspirational sports quotes I read, the previous is one of my favorites. These inspiring words are from an athlete who has certainly experienced his share of issues – including battling and winning against cancer.

If you walk away from this post with nothing else, remember that pain is your biggest challenge. It you can bear through it and not fall prey to the illusion that it’s permanent, you’ll come out on the other side stronger and wiser. The hard part is muddling through. I know there are times when you feel you can’t take anymore. But I ask you – try anyway. Honestly, your better tomorrow is only possible IF you don’t quit.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed inspiration from these great inspirational sports sayings. Here are more terrific inspirational sports quotes and motivational sports quotes to inspire you.

I like the one by Sparky Anderson, “Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I’ll win a pennant every year.” Speaks volumes about how the desire and hunger to win will always triumph.
